Voters in Platte City and some areas of unincorporated Platte County are scheduled to decide this Nov. 7 on whether or not they want the city to annex about 6,500 acres of Platte County into the city limits. Platte City aldermen, with Aaron Jung voting against, voted 5-1 to approve four annexation-related ordinances this week, establishing the election ballot.


The 38th annual Parkville Days Riverfest drew thousands of residents from across the area as they gathered for the jazz and blues music, a parade and a carnival during the three day event held Friday through Sunday.


The fourth annual End of the Trail Festival will be held in downtown Platte City on Sept. 8-9. The festival is a combination motorcycle rally, motorcycle parade and street dance. The event is held in conjunction with the Kansas City Harley-Davidson plant’s open house. Live music will include the Bob Harvey Band and Outlaw Jim and the Whiskey Benders.


The Platte County Republican Central Committee will host a grand opening of its headquarters at 6708 Tower Drive, Platte Woods, on Sunday, Sept. 10 from 3 pm. to 6 p.m. Candidates will be introduced and afforded an opportunity to say a few words to those assembled, reports Jim Rooney, chairman of the committee.
