There’s still not a definite opening date for the much-anticipated splash park in Platte City, but the current talk is of a possible early September opening.
As previously reported, the holdup deals with the shipping of the new playground equipment for the splash pad, which is at 1009 Second Street in Platte City, the former site of the Rising Star Elementary School.
Latest word in a staff report from the Platte City Parks and Recreation director is that installation of the playground equipment is expected to begin in early August, with completion expected in early September.
While the splash pad equipment has been installed and testing on it completed, the park will not open until the accompanying playground equipment is installed. DJ Gehrt, city administrator, has explained that this is due to liability factor, as a “hole” is present on the site, waiting for installation of the playground components.
Parks and rec staff has been organizing a training session with Water Odyssey to finalize the settings and review the operating procedures for the water equipment at the splash park.
Staff has also been coordinating the removal of the cottonwood tree to ensure a safe working environment.
“With shipping delays across the nation, AB Creative is currently scheduled to begin installation in early August, completion will be in early September,” Ryan Crowley, the city’s parks director, wrote in a recent report to city officials.
