Soca Jukebox to perform at courthouse Saturday

Soca Jukebox

The Platte City Friends of the Arts hosts Caribbean rock band Soca Jukebox at the 2nd Saturday Summer Concert Series July 10 starting at 7 p.m. at the Platte County Courthouse, Main Street, Platte City.

Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and relax on the courthouse lawn for an island getaway with the steel drum sounds from this Kansas City band.

The event also features a Pop-Up Car Show where you can show off your beautiful ride on Main Street. Any and all cars are welcome provided they are unique or car show quality. Children’s activities will include hula hoops, sidewalk chalk, and bubbles.

Free hot dogs, ice cream, and water will be available while supplies last.

The concert, activities, and food are free and open to the public.

This event is made possible thanks to Platte City Friends of the Arts, City of Platte City, Platte County Parks and Recreation, Missouri Arts Council, Ron Pine, Central Platte Fire Protection District, Gene Felling, and Wells Bank.

The Platte City Friends of the Arts began in 1999 with a small concert at Snow Creek. Fast forward to 2018 and this small group provides so much for Platte County, including sponsoring the Platte City Community Band and offering Fine Arts Scholarships to college-bound Platte County Seniors.

In addition to producing the Summer Concert series, PCFA also sponsor student and adult art shows throughout the year.

Outdoor concerts began at Riverview Park, then moved to Platte Ridge Park for a few years through 2009 when it was new.

Summer music concerts have been on the courthouse lawn since 2010. “These concerts are just another way that Main Street is the community’s meeting place. Bringing friends and families together to enjoy some great music is our goal,” said Dori Thomas, president, Platte City Friends of the Arts.

The final 2021 concert on Aug.14 will feature Cherry Bomb.
