30 Years Ago–July 5, 1991

Platte County’s assessed value has increased by 6.16 percent and now stands at $650,688,215 total, county clerk Doris Gerner reported to the county commission on Thursday. Gerner said there was a slight decrease in local railroad and utilities but the state railroad and utilities showed an increase of five percent.


The spirit squads of Platte County High School returned home from their four-day cheer camp at Kansas State University in Manhattan as champions. Squad members are planning a trip to Oceans of Fun and will be readying for the football season.


A July 20, 1991 wedding at Westside Christian Church in Columbia, Mo., is planned by Sabrina Baker and Troy Shannon. Parents of the engaged couple are Dean and Linda Baker of Hallsville, Mo. and John and Judy Shannon of Platte City.


Mr. and Mrs. B.H Goodlet of Dearborn celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, June 30 at the New Market Christian Church.


Platte County has the problem of too many roads and bridges in need of repair and not enough money to do the job. That’s what residents, mostly from the northern part of the county and representatives from the special road districts, were told at a public forum last week. “The law says we can’t use general revenue for roads,” Carol Tomb, presiding commissioner, told the audience.
