30 Years Ago–June 21, 1991

Platte County Commission members announced Thursday that they will take steps toward building a new jail for the county. Steps to be taken include appointing a site selection committee, visiting existing jails, selecting an architect, selecting a jail plan, cost projections, completing the financing plan, narrowing the site selection, public meetings and a bond election.


Desert Storm Troops, along with veterans of all wars, will be saluted in a special ceremony the morning of July 4th, and will take on an additional challenge of a softball game against the KC Media Stars, a team made up of local sports announcers and other celebrities, in the afternoon.


Navy Petty Officer 3rd class James D. Morgan, son of James A. and Lesley J. Morgan of Overhill Drive in Parkville, recently returned from deployment in the middle East in support of Operation Desert Storm while serving aboard the amphibious command ship USS Blue Ridge, homeported in Yokosuka, Japan.


William and Natalie King have announced the birth of their daughter, Emily Grace. She made her appearance June 7, 1991 and weighed eight pounds. The proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles West, Gower, and Mrs. Charlotte King of Edgerton.


The Park Hill Aquatic Center, a 42-meter swimming and diving facility on the Park Hill High School campus, is open for summer use by Park Hill patrons and area residents June 10-Aug. 31.
