RetroActive to perform on the lawn
The Platte City Friends of the Arts kicks off the Summer Concert Series this Saturday, June 12 at the Platte County Courthouse on Main Street in Platte City, at 7 p.m.
Bring your lawn chair or blankets and relax on the courthouse lawn to enjoy hits from the 80’s, along with the People’s Choice Singing Contest, a pop-up car show, and ice cream.
The featured band, RetroActive, will get you grooving while performing the biggest hits from popular music’s most influential decade.
Everyone is encouraged to wear your favorite 80’s clothing and hair.
The 2021 Wilson’s Floor Coverings People’s Choice Singing Contest will happen during the band’s break and showcases area college-bound high school seniors with a $500 grand prize college scholarship.
This year’s contestants are Raena Sinclair, Mallori Klopher, and Ginni Emms. All three are PCR-3 graduates. Audience members will vote on the contestants and the winner is announced at the event.
Bring your beautiful ride out for the pop-up car show happening on Main Street. Any and all cars are welcome provided they are unique or car show quality.
The concert is free and open to the public and will be held rain or shine. This event is made possible thanks to Platte City Friends of the Arts, City of Platte City, Platte County Parks and Recreation, Missouri Arts Council, Wilson’s Floor Coverings, and Wells Bank.
The Platte City Friends of the Arts began in 1999 with a small concert at Snow Creek. Fast forward to 2021 and this small group provides so much for Platte County, including sponsoring the Platte City Community Band and offering Fine Arts Scholarships to college-bound Platte County Seniors.
In addition to producing the Summer Concert series, PCFA also sponsors student and adult art shows throughout the year.
Outdoor concerts began at Riverview Park, then moved to Platte Ridge Park for a few years through 2009. Summer music concerts have been on the courthouse lawn since 2010.
“We really enjoy bringing the community together each month in the summer to share great music, fun and beautiful cars, and free ice cream,” said Dori Thomas, president, Platte City Friends of the Arts.
The July 10 concert will feature Island Rock band Soca Jukebox and on Aug. 14 Cherry Bomb will be rocking Main Street.
