Air traffic bouncing back at KCI

Nearly 500,000 passengers in April

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that during April, 495,154 passengers traveled through Kansas City International Airport. This was an increase of 1073 percent compared to April 2020.

By comparison, the April 2021 passenger count was 47 percent less than April 2019. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is down 25 percent compared to last year.

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up 16.1 percent in April with a total of 18.2 million pounds handled. Year to date, 66.1 million pounds have been handled, up 2.4 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during April amounted to 18.1 million pounds, up 15.4 percent year-over-year. Year to date, air freight is up 4.0 percent with a total of 65.5 million pounds handled. Air mail for April was up 577.1 percent from April 2020 with 117,601 pounds handled. Air mail year to date for 2021 is down 62.3 percent from 2020 with 588,508 pounds handled.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for April 2021 was 96. Service was offered to 38 nonstop markets. There was an average of 22,470 arriving and departing scheduled seats in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported five daily departures for April.
