Mrs. Jack Pike, attempting to close the louvers in her front door one night last week met with an welcomed guest. A large black snake was wound through them, trying to find its way in or out. A terrified scream brought Mr. Pike out of bed to the dismissal of the reptile.
An old house, known to earlier day citizens as the “Foley Home” northeast of Barry, was demolished recently. It was nearly a century old, its rooms 20 feet square and had been occupied by many changing residents until recently when vandalism took over.
For the first time in Platte County, leasehold interests have been ruled taxable by the State Tax Commission, says Mrs. Lorraine Williams, county assessor. She says she is now in a position to assess such properties.
