A court-ordered mental evaluation is continuing for a suspect in a Platte City murder case who has entered a plea of not guilty by reason of mental defect. Jacob McGinnis, 25, remains in the Platte County Jail. He is being transported to St. Joseph for the mental exam, which is being performed by the Missouri Department of Mental Health. A Platte County judge ordered the evaluation for McGinnis last month after McGinnis entered his plea. He is charged with the murder of Steven Sandoval, 32, of Platte City last September after raping Sandoval’s wife.
A Platte County R-3 school bus carrying a full load of children, collided with a 2002 Chevy truck last Friday. The accident occurred at 7:03 a.m. at the intersection of Timber Creek Lane and Hwy. 92. The police report indicates that the fault of the crash is due to the driver of the truck, a 50-year-old man from Kansas City. The school bus was driven by a 26-year-old female operator for the school district.
Charges against a former Riverside judge that were planned to be handled in state court were mistakenly taken up in Kansas City municipal court last week. Charles McKeon of Parkville, who resigned as Riverside’s municipal judge after his arrest, pled guilty to charges of DWI and leaving the scene of an accident. His appearance went against the plan by the Kansas City municipal prosecutor and Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd.
