The Platte City Board of Aldermen this week unanimously consented to accept a revised agreement with the Platte City Chamber of Commerce. The changed agreement requires the chamber office to be staffed full time Monday through Friday, allows participation by the city in special events, and now requires a monthly report from the chamber instead of the previous quarterly report. The aldermen did not immediately agree to give the chamber the normal $10,000 at the meeting this week, but may decide to make the grant of money at their next meeting in two weeks.
Various officials and dignitaries, including all three Platte County commissioners, attended a gala grand opening of the Tiffany Hills Park Athletic Complex on Friday. Negro Leagues Hall of Famer Buck O’Neil and Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes were featured speakers. The park is located at the intersection of N. Congress Ave. and Tiffany Springs Parkway. It includes eight baseball fields for tournament play, two concession/restroom buildings and soccer fields.
Charges against Raymond A. Labbe, of North Carolina, have been filed. Prosecutors say Labbe was one of two men who drove around rural Platte County and Parkville and shot several road signs with a shotgun from a moving vehicle.
