45 Years Ago–April 23, 1976

Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Turner of Tracy announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Thelma Ann, to Jerret Dave East, son of Mr. and Mrs. Falus East of Cabool, Missouri. Both are presently employed at the Raymondville Elementary School. The wedding is planned for May 29.


Mr. and Mrs. James E. Wren of Platte City announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Robin, to Mr. Norman Wayne Bryant, son of Dr. and Mrs. Glen E. Bryant of West Helena, Ark.


Judge Charlie Broomfield, western district judge of the Clay County Court, spoke at an all-school assembly at Platte City High School on April 13, where the new Student Council officers were installed. Officers installed were John D. Palmer, president; John Miller, vice president; Marsha West, secretary; and Ted Lusk, treasurer.


Bob Shaw, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Shaw of Platte City, was initiated into Omicron Delta Epsilon, the international Economics Honor Society at the University of Missouri-Columbia on April 16. He was also named a recipient of an Undergraduate Manpower Scholarship.


Glen Rowland, installer-repairman for the United Telephone Company of Missouri at Platte City, recently completed a one week training course in basic print reading. Basic print reading students are taught typical relay symbols in different modes, as well as parts identification.
