KCP&L, a subsidiary of Great Plains Energy, announced Tuesday that the first phase of the restoration of a 106-acre tract of wetlands at the Iatan Generating Station began this week. When completed, Iatan will be home to one of the most unique wetlands along the Missouri River bottom, with improved water quality, stormwater retention and habitat for a diversity of plant and animal species, said Tom Robinson, the company’s information officer.
U.S. Sen. Kit Bond joined City of Riverside and Missouri Department of Transportation officials in celebrating the groundbreaking of the I-635 Horizons Parkway Interchange in Riverside. Sen. Bond secured $5 million for the project in the fiscal year 2005 Omnibus Appropriations Bill. Officials believe the interchange will open development opportunities for the area once threatened by flooding and now protected by the L-385 levee.
A fast-moving band of strong thunderstorms with high straight line winds and characteristics that produce tornadoes swept through the Platte-Clay Electric Cooperative (PCEC) service area Saturday evening, April 15, turning off power to some 4,000 members caused by a variety of storm incidents. Members began reporting outages at 8:30 p.m. Platte-Clay line crews restored power to nearly 3,800 members by 10 p.m. with all power restored by 3 a.m. on Sunday, April 16.
