A man who donned a wig before he robbed a Northland liquor store and a Parkville restaurant within 30 minutes has been sentenced to 14 years in prison. Jess A. Donovan, 25, of Riverside, received the prison term Feb. 2 for robbing a Berbiglia Wine and Spirits store in Kansas City and the Power Plant Restaurant and Brewery in Parkville on May 1, 2005.


Five months after the Platte County Commission announced its decision to buy the ground on which the county-owned golf course sits, county officials will hold an open house to celebrate the upcoming golf season. Shiloh Springs Golf Club, which was opened a decade ago, is hosting the event to focus on changes that will take place at the course for the 2006 season, according to Brian Nowotny, director of county parks and recreation.

Platte City administrator Keith Moody has received a two percent merit-based salary increase from the city’s board of aldermen. This most recent evaluation has established Moody’s salary at an annual salary of $69,500. Over the last five years, Moody has consistently seen around a two percent increase to his salary annually. Moody has been with the City of Platte City as its administrator since Feb. 5, 1996.


Northland Regional Ambulance District, which serves Platte City, Smithville, Camden Point, Dearborn and the surrounding unincorporated area, is asking voters to approve a 15 cent levy increase this spring.
