Local Musician Brad Carl Sings the News

hey folks welcome to another fine edition of landmark live i am here with my good friend ivan foley i am brad carl and the christmas decorations are still up in platte city because every day is christmas it’s every day is like christmas and classes welcome in you guys we’ve got a fun episode for you tonight it’s landmark live and the return of brad carl it’s me the big man brad hasn’t been around for over a year it feels like it yeah i mean it definitely has been what you and i haven’t been in the same room for uh you know since well before the band which which speaking of that but by the way let me let me share my my weight now share that on your face i want to show everybody that we are official here yeah we do things the correct way uh oh my look the first person who started bread sings it to you i i just want to say that if it fails which is it was ivan’s idea exactly because of there i finally figured it out okay there we go there there i am looking down on my phone for the last five minutes on the video that’s all right it’s showing your best side exactly let’s show everybody that we are official yeah let’s do it all the way from socially distance i i have recently noticed that oh my goodness yeah we’re fine we all right six and a half feet is the official distance it’s six and a half and we’re we’re fine are we good we’re good we’re good two meters six and a half feet probably should make sure that we’re the good this is oh yeah we’re fine from the camera oh yeah yeah we’ll be great actually yeah i had to punch uh punch the uh start button on the camera for us tonight because uh our camera girl a little light showing up because she has a real job but uh here we are she’s if you don’t have a real job i have a real job do you let’s talk about your real job we haven’t done that for a while well it’s it’s uh it’s uh uh it pays the bills yeah um i sell things do you i do i travel and uh last year with my traveling i decided to do a mosaic of every hotel room that i stayed in i took a photograph on my iphone of the room number uh just kind of because there’s different designs and things and things like that so i have a collage or actually a couple collages on my phone of mine which isn’t going to translate very well to the show but i’ll show you real quick of my room numbers now the problem with this is that i stay at a lot of the same chain to get the bonus points you know so unfortunately a lot of them look uh they look alive they look alike but that’s wow isn’t that pretty that is pretty i’m you know you can’t see it there on the camera but it’s a little just a little commemorative yeah thing to do so like how far and why do you travel the job really i uh last october went down to the bayou oh really all and also by the way not flying driving yeah well yeah and and not alone with my boss two weeks uh had the pandemic started when you did this yeah the pandemic was already going on and uh but you know what i’ll tell you just just an fyi they didn’t give two rips the only good thing about traveling with my boss for two weeks the only good thing and i do hope he’s watching the only good thing was not having to share a hotel room with him yeah well let’s say hi to brad’s former boss exactly sorry about that um another thing i wanted to bring to your attention and this is not your fault it’s not the landmark’s fault but i thought it was kind of interesting but the other day i was behind on my landmark reading yes and i pulled out uh the january 13th uh paper and i started reading it as i was skipping i was like that seems extra heavy and an extra copy fell out really and i want our friend david park to know that i have okay but i have your copy from two weeks ago david just swing by pick this up go get it right here dude no charge yeah so anyway you know i often uh mentioned rather you’re a street musician but you’re really not a street musician you’re you’re more like a you’re more like a soup kitchen kind of a homeless camp musician kind of a thing a homie musician yes but yes but i’ve been doing it for i’ve been playing guitar right and singing crap for 20 30 30 30 plus years that’s awesome and tell everybody that you had a radio game for a while let’s let everybody know that yeah i used to be a real radio yeah back up in iowa uh in sioux city where i grew up and then i had pretend radio shows here of course uh and he did it for many years and that’s how i became familiar with exactly that that’s that’s uh how some very infamous pictures were put into the platte county landmark from the former uh no longer allowed by legality problems uh platte county landmark christmas parties oh yeah that’s no longer allowed yeah well that was that was many years ago but those were good times they were yeah they were good times so we got to know each other a little bit better and um it was fun because like i said some of those pictures are also very commemorative because there was a lot of us uh loves together that some of us most of us most of us were in real media and that yeah we did a funny job we did that i remember at one christmas party we did it we did a little game where you were like you were a mime you remember that yes you’re miami you have a lot of video of that song yeah we just dig that out and a picture or two of that yeah because i think uh camera was interviewing um amy amy oh amy patton patton yeah you start with the p yeah i want to say amy poehler but that would be the wrong oh amy hi shout out to amy patton hi i’m sure is watching yes uh chris was interviewing her and i was behind um doing sign language yeah just in case it’s the deaf people needed we need we need that no i don’t know you should do that the next next week’s show what i have next week i got guy specman on brad you can stand behind us and just oh god yeah i’d like to meet guy uh uh now let’s just say one more thing we also i think did we played sure the the first time yes i was on landmark we were at burger theory burger there you did the charades did the charades we did the we did the live audience back when we could have lived on yeah that was really good that was that was yeah so what have you been doing all this time you know you’ve been keeping up with the landmark news eyes keeping up with the landmark news uh following my uh favorite mayors and their issues and then um also uh what else are we doing um i do have a youtube channel now that’s very musically oriented um of course you can just search my name on there brad carl music and um working and um god i mean what else it’s really just sitting around waiting for the weather to get better and waiting for us to be able to to get out and enjoy life again yeah absolutely tough tough times right it’s been an adjustment you know for a lot of us who are socially active you know you know no i saw i saw jonathan creek was still uh uh opening up and doing musicians they may need to contact me well will i will admit i’m sure you thought the same way there’s no guarantees obviously no and when that game started last weekend um you know i was i want to say i was worried i don’t think anybody that was a common sense chiefs fan was worried early but i was worried before the game even started just because you just don’t know what’s going to happen well yeah and if you’re like me you’re never overconfident about this game you always go in with a little bit of hesitation you know what i’m saying because we’ve seen them fall behind a little bit in these playoff games early but they’ve been lucky enough to say lucky skillful enough to come for behind and actually end up winning rather easily the other day but hey yeah the super bowl about 10 days away down in tampa it’s the chiefs versus tom brady and the buccaneers predictions coming on next week’s show but brad you might not be here next week so you got an early lean on the uh on the show i i’m really bad at these predictions as you know i mean if we’re do we know what a spread is yet it’s three or three and a half cheese spaces yeah i mean i don’t know if they want to bet the spread on this um you know i don’t like tom brady no i mean i’m assuming you don’t either by the way it’s just fun to watch yeah exactly exactly um and that’s the difference between a patrick mahomes and tom brady is that patrick myles doesn’t throw a temper tantrum when he doesn’t get the calls when he occasionally loses things like that so i mean obviously i hope the chiefs will win i think the chiefs can win i think they will win um i i hope they win because but you just and by the way andy reid’s record after a two week two weeks off once again he gets two weeks off it’s true it’s a great record yeah only five losses and like 25 26 playing something like that over the years so right i think everything is in the chief’s favor um god i hope they don’t give tom brady i just don’t want to give tom brady and everything we’re done uh early pick for mvp of the game the chiefs win we know mvp i mean i guess they didn’t give it to williams last year the running back who played so well i mean if you if you’re ever going to give it to someone other than the holmes that was the year so i just really if we win the game it seems to me i i would certainly think so too i can’t remember the last time that it was not an offensive player yeah um one does come to mind and that was back in the 90s when uh the cowboys were beating the bills and a couple of super bowls in a row row and i believe i want to say the guy’s name was larry brown but i can’t remember for sure some defensive yeah i think i got it yeah i mean i’m always wondering if something like that if you could see uh a timer matthew you know pulling a crazy game out of his butt if it’s a defensive struggle especially but you know if it’s a high scoring game you almost gotta figure it’s gonna be my homes but yeah so what’s been your favorite news story of late uh you have anything in particular you wanna you wanna sing about tonight well you know there’s been so many good stories though how can you pick just one i think it’s pretty easy actually okay i i i am how do i explain this i i think sometimes and i think i think if if the last president of the united states doesn’t teach you anything about how to be a public figure incorrectly nothing’s ever going to teach you uh how to be a public figure you know and how to be a public figure and win right um and when in life you know and so i i think it’s sometimes good that when you’re when you’re in a hole it’s probably best to just stop digging stop digging the hole maybe ask for a little help that help would probably say stop digging you know um i’m i’m really interested in what’s going on at park though i was hoping that maybe you could shed me uh some more light i mean you’ve got great stuff yeah really great stuff in the paper there’s a lawsuit going on down there over some open records so that’s always interesting that’s dominating the headlines this week i don’t know if that’s something you’re going to sing about oh uh let’s go ahead and keep talking okay they’ve also got an alderman getting uh angry with a citizen who was speaking at the meeting and we’ve also got well the mayor recently had a dwi i don’t know if you heard about that uh mayor nan johnson no i didn’t know about that so we can you can sing about that if you’d like because she’s a big fan of the show she is a big fan where’s her headline i want to see her out of line [Music] oh you know what there it is we got it we got it earlier that’s one of your favorite bands that was a song by american right there i think we can actually do those songs you know if i can actually do a live show with other people’s songs on my show we could sing [Music] okay why not that’s what i hired you for okay dan johnson w dwi hearings in march new court date on the docket so yeah she had gotten her court date moved i think i kind of think that was going to happen uh yeah yeah that was no surprise oh no she blew a 0.11 at the scene but that’s not legally no right what was the point at the jail official yeah that’s the official number you got to go by but if you want to throw an unofficial number in the song you can obviously do that i mean it’s just a song i think that’s true it’s not like it’s nice it’s not like your song is going to be part of the court hearing she’s blue one she just point one one at the scene of the crime tonight blue 0.00 we talked about this before i want to talk about it again we understand what 0.11 and 0.098 are because we’ve done it on the show before yeah yeah and neither you nor i are really heavy drinkers so it didn’t take much for us to get kind of silly right now even camera got silly though and let’s be honest cameron drinks more than we do he does he does and endless but if i recall correctly despite all the drinking we did in that hour plus nobody blew no we were all still under right but we were silly though too and all nan had though was i think she said one mike’s hard lemonade at five o’clock yeah and then another half of one yeah like hours later so daddy that’s that’s a strong that’s a problem that’s either that or she is the lightest lightweight you’ve ever changed more lightweight than we are right that’s pretty light yeah i mean wow so yeah you know and here’s the thing too i mean i don’t want to be sympathetic but i want to be empathetic yes i think i think that in a situation like this that um um you know again maybe just just best to just dial it back there’s been some angry emails and things too oh my god an angry email the night after she got arrested i mean it’s just anger she didn’t want to come see you in town not going to flat city i don’t know where she’s on the jail there’s only one jam here’s here’s another song want the covid19 vaccine complete a brief survey [Music] health department gives update you can catch the yeah and also what’s this possibility oh evidence destruction that’s always good to sing about possibility of evidence destruction raised an attorney representing the city partner in a civil suit told a judge in the case of money this is too much this is why we only want to read the headlines alderman exchange with citizens you’re getting more discussion at parkville meeting i would like to read more about that one later yeah you should oh okay yeah read it in an angry voice when you go read it because that’s a very angry story but here here’s a good there’s a good reason [Music] it’s like an old western no it’s barracuda yeah that’s going to work myself state ethics commission investigating man johnston state ethics commission investigating man johnston did part phil mayer violate campaign laws again [Music] that’s a hit that’s pretty good right there really is a hit i love how you also i mean kudos to you you’re the one who wrote this it rhymed that really helped i knew you’re gonna make music really good i don’t know i can’t wait to read that article about it yeah you gotta get on that but i’m also very interested in the word your word or was that debbie coleman no that’s that’s my word i didn’t want to use angry because i don’t know if you classified as angry i guess you could be classified as angry but you gotta you know i could tell because first first is your kind of word yours is kind of short and sweet it kind of fit the opening in the in the space there that’s true that’s true that’s what we wrote well that’s what we decided to roll with i like it i wish i could sing the whole thing but like i said too many variations right a lot of big words in there too yes there dirty words are there bad words in that no i don’t think so so it’s just a terse expression sure and there’s nothing not necessarily dirty no no no no yeah but it’s angry and sometimes people get angry they swear oh they do now we have another elected official do you remember dagmar when you talk about that oh i do remember dagger she should have a song too dagmar i should have tipped you off on this because dagmar dropped a dirty word on facebook the other day and you might want to put that to music the word back crap yeah except she didn’t say crap so you know what’s funny is my former executive producer yes for my radio show my second radio show my favorite years ago he had a song he had a band too he had a song his band name was jedi superstar yeah and he had a song called that s word crazy wow it’s a really good song i think it might be about you sure i know i just don’t like it i can’t remember how it goes though in the facebook post timestamp january 5th at i o 8 a.m jack marshwood cursed this trick flight county referred to a group of people as fat s were crazy it’s a family show family show we need to clean it up hot deep kettle hot yeah i should have prepared this one for you because it would have been a lot better if it could have rhymed you know did you work on rhyming more of your i’ll try that i just woke up with this idea this morning i’m like brad i texted brad earlier i’m like bring your guitar we can do brad carl sings the news that’s a great idea so here we are we did not prepare anything this is brad off the top of his head yeah he said no we didn’t prepare anything the public potty mouth by another elected official fate and johnson might be enough to rub some folks the wrong way but it’s irony that gets me every time it’s pretty rich quite an elected official known for overlapping determination who has reposted conspiracy theories about comet 19 given tactic that’s it pacific approval to violate public health orders and proposed building a 65 million dollar jail that we didn’t need i had that part accurate [Music] because yeah this is this is how i write songs is you just kind of you get you get a few things you know you just kind of keep going and yeah i like it you know i mean i like it too by the way side note i wanted to mention because in one of your recent um between the lines i think you mentioned this before we probably had this discussion before you are not the only person but one of the few in my opinion that loves the mcrib sandwich oh yeah i’m surprised by that yeah only because we die together often yes and and um you don’t seem to be the kind of guy that would want to eat an eraser with barbecues i mean it just tastes great because it’s a mystery patty really it’s what it is it’s really mysterious and see i i have an inside hand because my very first job was working did you make my career was that pre-mcrib that no the mcgrib first came out when i was working at mcdonald’s in probably 1987 or 88 yeah and it came out and um i mean i ate a few of them but i never really liked them but i like more that they never bring back is the cheddar melt i don’t know a lot of people don’t remember the cheddar melt but they around that same period it was basically like like a puppy melt they used a rye bun and it was a quarter pounder burger and we would squirt the old tube cheddar cheese on it and we grilled teriyaki grilled onions and put it on it and it was just it sounds amazingly gross well if you if you think that’s gross then you can understand why i think the my room is gross so i used one of my old radio shows we we tried to get old mcdonald’s and tried to get them to try to get some freebies no trying to get him to bring the damn thing back okay to get the chat about back yeah they just won’t bring them back they started talking about uh geographic markets and stuff i mean there’s got to be a reason why they bring it to you and they take it away because what is the marketing genius behind it same thing with all these new dr peppers and coats and things that come out like i’m always intrigued by them but every time i get hooked on one they pull it yeah why why i mean i do understand make them want leave them wanting more but that’s what we do that’s our job creating a demand we’re creating a demand for more brad carl music and when he puts that dagmar piece to music that is going to be a classic hit single i we can sell those off the website uh years ago that he was getting started on the stand-up circuit he noticed that female comedians were so rare that they would always score a slot first so he went to the list and wrote down the unisex name all the time like stacy green or tracy brown and jamie foxx and he goes i’m the first guy called all the time and he goes they would say like jamie foxx is she here or he would say oh that’s me man you know you know on stage just because i thought it was a girl yeah i sound collaborative actually kind of smart yeah kind of funny whether it’s true or not lady gaga lady gaga this is interesting big fan big fan yeah i like her too uh actually have a cover of one of her songs on youtube yeah yeah check it out uh her real name is stefani or steph how about stephanie that spelled like gwen stefani’s name uh stephanie joanne angelina germanotta wow our german nova jordan okay says here the story behind lady gaga’s stage name began with an auto-corrected text message i think we can all appreciate for autographs yes we can right uh in 2006 she met music producer rob fasari who compared her vocals to queen’s freddie mercury he would sing radio gaga whenever she entered the studio and one day they were texting and his phone auto corrected it to lady. she reportedly texted back that’s it that’s that’s awesome that’s my name that’s pretty cool yeah you’ve done some research i like this you know it’s funny i didn’t have to look too hard i just came up with these well here’s the thing you find a list of 25 and you pick out three or four good ones right because they’re not all that rare you know um i will say that uh the phoenix name is borderline fakie you know like with the last name of phoenix does not sound like but that’s believable now there’s two names that i don’t have on this list but i’m not going to tell you about i’m not big fans of their name i don’t have a problem with them as performers but john legend and alicia keys if those two names aren’t the most fake names i’ve ever heard in my entire legend legend like the keys that you play yeah yeah yeah that’s like some of the wrestling names you know have been interesting over the years sure they have yeah exactly so i just want to throw in my two cents about that the last one i have i was kind of surprised by miley cyrus is not her real name did you know that if i did i forgot yeah i didn’t know that either her real name is also very cute it’s destiny hope cyrus that’s her real name and they say this this makes a lot of sense that when she was a baby her family called her smiley because she always had a grin on her face and she does have a big toothy grin uh she legally changed her name to miley ray cyrus like your dad billy ray uh in 2009. yeah actually i’m a big miley fan too now a lot of people think i’m joking when i say that but i think she’s got an excellent voice you know what i like about i like that about you you’re not afraid to like i’m a big big miley fan i love you just as you are you know i love you too we are going to go to air supply yeah listen uh big announcement i almost forgot to bring this up ameristar bringing back concerts they think in june so we will have concert tickets for the show again starting in june when they supposedly are going to get concerts back in the ameristar casino in kansas city what a time to be alive that’s fantastic like i was saying i’m just waiting for the world to get back to some sort of normal semblance i just want to get out i want to see my friends i want to mingle and jingle and yeah yeah i mean we’ve got some we’ve got some social occasions we’ve got to make up for we missed out on a lot over the past year but we’ll get rolling again right we really did i agree and and uh wasn’t going to say my mind just went like well that happens to be bad um so yeah uh uh oh i know i was gonna say about concerts was that i had a couple on my radar before co-vegan right yeah and i had them on my calendar and i think there were ameristar shows and i was like uh i gotta go with ivan and see you know for if he’s gonna if he wants to go yeah exactly and i had to keep just the shows kept getting bumped and yelled and yeah i’ve heard marshall tucker is one of the first ones coming back i don’t know if you’re a marshall tucker okay there you go why not so stay in tune with us we’ll have concert tickets when they become available and maybe we’ll give some away here on the show brad i think we used to do that yeah we did we have to get back in that habit uh anything you want to close with you
