New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has been awarded an Emmy award for his COVID19 press briefings. I am not making this up. The “Founders Award” is being presented to him later this year is “recognition of his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and his masterful use of television to inform and calm people around the world,” according to the out of touch people that make such awards.
I read this and had to do a second search to make sure it is true. This is the crazy world in which we live. The coastal elitism is real, and it is why they don’t understand us, and we don’t understand them. These people are preaching to us about trying to (take your pick) flatten the curve, reduce the spread or protect your grandma, yet they are busy giving themselves awards for press briefings.
Raise your hand if you can name the last person that got the “Founders Emmy.”
Ok, I went down this rabbit hole for you. Last year the Founders Emmy was given to David Benioff and D.B Weiss, who apparently are the people responsible for Game of Thrones. That makes more sense than Governor Cuomo. Al Gore got it once. Oprah is a past winner and Bill Cosby won the award once, presumably before he was convicted of all those rapes.
Anyway, there is no chance you will ever win this award. In fact, if you live west of the Allegheny Mountains and east of the Rocky Mountains, you will never win this award. Set your sights on something else.
People don’t name their kids D.B. often enough anymore. I suppose D.B. Cooper stealing that money and jumping out a plane ruined that for everyone. Sad.
The most common names for new babies in 2020 you ask. Sophia, Olivia, Riley and Emma for the female gender and Liam, Noah, Jackson and Aiden for the males. Not sure what the most popular non-binary names are. I’m not even sure they name non-binary babies. According to some we have “progressed” to the point of ignoring basic anatomy and letting our babies become whatever gender their little minds choose. Makes sense, right?
Anyway, if you are having a baby and going to let it choose its gender, here are the top names to choose from, Adrian, Albany, Devon, Egypt and Indiana.
I have no idea why you would name a kid Indiana, except Indiana Jones was a rather good name, so I might reconsider that opinion.
Happy Thanksgiving. Not surprisingly, Thanksgiving has a controversial history. Some believe it to be a religious holiday and others point to the holiday being an outgrowth of the celebration of the agricultural harvest each year.
The holiday was first recognized by the United States Government in 1863 by President Lincoln. He did this, in part, after the government had been pressured by a lady named Sarah Josepha Hale who wrote letters to politicians for 40 years advocating for the national holiday.
Can you imagine if Sarah had Facebook or Twitter? She’s your annoying aunt who keeps sharing the same thing over and over.
She also wrote “Mary had a little lamb.” Now trying to go the rest of the weekend without belting out that rhyme.
I’ll leave you with this last little nugget about Sarah. Her husband died in 1822. She is said to have worn black for the rest of her life as a sign of perpetual mourning. She died in 1879. That’s 57 years if you are mathematically challenged. I’m sure that made shopping easier, but I suspect she stood out in the spring.
Anyway, you can thank her for Thanksgiving. Sing Mary Had a Little Lamb at some point this weekend to pay your respects.
