30 Years Ago–October 26, 1990

The family of Calvin and Verna Taylor are inviting all friends and relatives to an open house on Oct. 25 in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary. The celebration will be held at the Smithville City Hall.


Jennifer Nicole was born Oct. 10 in Kansas City. She weighed in at six pounds, seven ounces and is the daughter of Gobel and Shari James, Edgerton. The maternal grandparents are Mary and Truby Lanham and the paternal grandparents are Betty and Ersil (Jim) James.


Ryan Nichols, Platte City, was awarded a plaque for capturing first place in the regional Punt, Pass and Kick contest. He will compete in the state finals in December.


For the ninth straight year, the Lady Pirates are KCI Conference volleyball champions. The happy Lady Pirates ran to the phone in the lobby of the Lathrop school to call their head coach with the news of another KCI title. Kathy Hatfield, head coach, had to miss the game because she was undergoing chemotherapy treatment at KU Medical Center.


Platte County’s Pirates established themselves as a contender in Class 3A District 16 football competition with a 31-26 victory over Savannah Friday night on the Savages’ field.
