30 Years Ago–October 12, 1990

Kim Johnson was crowned Platte County R-3 Homecoming Queen at halftime of Friday night’s football game between the Pirates and the Cameron Dragons. Kim is the daughter of James and Frances Johnson. The Pirate Homecoming King, Aaron Eckerberg, was crowned at the Powder Puff football game last week.


The student newspaper at Platte County R-3 High School, the “Pirate Clipper” has been named a First Class Paper for the 1989-90 school year by the National Scholastic Press Association.


Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Inc. will receive a loan of $1,690,600 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to construct housing for the elderly and handicapped in Platte County, Senators Jack Danforth and Kit Bond announced.


State Auditor Margaret Kelly will bring her re-election campaign to Platte County on Tuesday, Oct. 16. The Kelly campaign announced that Mrs. Kelly will appear in Platte City for a 4:30 p.m. rally at the Platte County Courthouse.
