Las Cabanas Authentic Mexican Restaurant recently opened on Main Street across from the courthouse in Platte City, and a liquor license for the establishment is advancing at City Hall.
Platte City’s Economic Development Committee on Tuesday night recommended the liquor license be approved by the board of aldermen at its meeting later this month.
The restaurant, at 325 Main, opened in August “and has completed all the requirements necessary to obtain a business license and has also been inspected and passed the building and code requirements of the city to open the establishment. The business owner has applied for a state and city liquor license in order to serve, beer, wine and other intoxicating spirits by the drink,” says a staff report from D.J. Gehrt, city administrator for Platte City. Sunday sales are included.
Gehrt said the business meets the minimum distance requirement as there are no churches or state licensed educational facilities within 300 feet of the building. The Montessori school at Fourth and Marshall is just within 300 feet but is not considered a state licensed educational facility for the purposes of the Liquor Control Act, Gehrt explained.
The liquor license fees are prorated for the remainder of this license year, which ends on June 30, 2021. The prorated fee for Las Cabanas is $587.50, Gehrt said.
