Dearborn has selected a new city clerk. The board of aldermen culminated in search for a replacement for longtime clerk Susan Crowley this week by hiring Sonia Ray, who has an extensive background in customer service and financial programs. Ray and her husband, Bob, live just south of Dearborn in a home they are currently remodeling. They are longtime residents of the area.

A donation of land at Riverview Park by the City of Platte City for the construction of a training burn tower by the Central Platte Fire District (CPFD) is now in question. The proposed location, a piece of undeveloped land at Riverview Park, has come under question by the board after reviewing the department’s request. Alderman Bill Knighton expressed his concern about the road into Riverview being able to handle the traffic that a fire training facility would bring. “The road is narrow and is gravel,” he said, questioning whether it could handle heavy trucks. Knighton also questioned if the city would be liable if a firefighter were to be injured while training on city-owned property. The issue will be discussed at the Sept. 13 board of aldermen meeting.
