Kevin Weeks, son of the Rev. Lester M. Weeks of Platte City, has been awarded a teaching fellowship in the philosophy department at the University of Manitoba and will leave August 31 for Winnipeg, Canada. He is a graduate of SWMS University at Springfield, Missouri.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Diffenbaugh, formerly of the Parkville area, are now the owners of Weston Rest Home, Inc., formerly the Tate Rest Home. Mrs. Diffenbaugh is the former Marjorie Hellman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hellman of Weston. She is a registered nurse and Mr. Diffenbaugh is a chef. Mr. and Mrs. Elton Tate, who previously operated the home, are moving to their house in the country.
The grand opening of the Paint & Piddle Plaster Parlor in Platte City in the Platte Hotel will be Saturday, Aug. 30. Dan and Connie Brubeck of Smithville are the owners of the new crafts business. They will have available for sale art plaster, wall hangings, statuary and figurines. Free instruction and free paint will be available, if the painting is done in the shop.
Mrs. Liza Lamar has returned home after spending the summer with her daughters, Mrs. Edna Boulette at Imperial beach, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. E.F. Peterson at San Diego, Donald Cain and Stanley Cain.
Tom and Ruth Nighswonger will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with an open house at their home in Platte City on Sunday, Sept. 7, from 2-5 p.m.
