A Kansas City woman allegedly gained access to a cabin at Basswood Resort, located along Interurban Road in unincorporated Platte County, several miles east of Platte City.
The 42-year-old woman was not a paying guest and did not have permission to stay, court documents allege. The suspect allegedly damaged a window handle and entered the vacant lakeside cabin.
Resort employees discovered that the non-registered person had spent the night on Friday, Aug. 7.
Law enforcement officers were called to the scene to conduct a search. Inside, police say they found 24.9 grams of methamphetamine, multiple glass smoking pipes and several small plastic baggies containing another 29 grams of methamphetamine.
An experienced law enforcement officer indicated the plastic baggies filled with the illegal substance are typically used in the transaction of narcotics.
With families visiting the resort with their young children, law enforcement officers believe the intent of bringing methamphetamines onto the premises with the intent to distribute it presents a “substantial risk of serious injury or death.”
The Platte County Prosecutor’s Office charged Misty Michelle Cook, age 41, of Kansas City with burglary in the second degree and delivery of a controlled substance.
Platte County Circuit Court Judge Eckold set her bail at $10,000 cash-only.
Once posted, Cook must have a drug patch within 48 hours of her release, pursuant to the judge’s special conditions.
