The Platte County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting that took place inside a vehicle early Tuesday.

On Tuesday at 1:58 a.m., the Platte County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a vehicle crash on Interstate 29 just north of Hwy. 273 at Tracy.

Major Erik Holland says while deputies were responding, they were notified of a possible gunshot injury at the scene. Police say a 26-year-old man had a gunshot wound to the back of his head and what appeared to be an exit wound on his face.

The injured man told authorities that he was driving the vehicle when his uncle, Constantin Iavorschi, shot him in the back of the head. The victim was transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive, Holland said.

Constatin Iavorschi was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Platte County Detention Center. Iavorschi’s booking information at the Platte County Jail indicates he is 41 years old.

Holland said the incident is being investigated by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division.
