30 Years Ago–August 30, 1990

The Missouri Air National Guard provided a presentation of the history of the United States flag during a flagpole dedication at the Platte City Caring Center last week. The center’s flagpole was purchased and installed through voluntary donations of residents, families and staff. State Rep. John Birch was the featured speaker at the ceremony.


Aaron Beene, a 15-year-old Platte City resident, recently returned from Orleans, France, with a bronze medal for the USA Junior F.I.T.A.S.C. team. FITASC designates Federation International DeTir Armes Sportives DeCHasse.


Judge Andrew Jackson Higgins of the Missouri Supreme Court has been honored for his efforts to prevent child abuse in the state of Missouri. Higgins is a native of Platte City, practiced law in Platte City, served as prosecuting attorney and Platte City mayor and later was judge of the 6th Judicial Circuit. He was appointed to the Missouri Supreme Court in 1979.


Missouri Treasurer Wendell Bailey has announced a new quarterly allocation process for the MO BUCKS farm and small business program that will result in the funding of more than $3,804,000 of waiting list applicants during the third quarter of 1990. The Platte County request which will be funded from the waiting list is for the Bank of Weston. The bank will be offered a $69,266 deposit for agriculture loans. MO BUCKS is the largest low interest linked deposit program in the nation.
