LeAnn Hawkins, 17, received a plaque Monday night at the 1990 Platte County Fair Queen Pageant. She was named “Miss Congeniality” by the other contestants. Leann is the daughter of Donald and Patricia Hawkins of Tracy. She is sponsored by Jim Owens Insurance. The Fair Queen is to be crowned Wednesday during opening night ceremonies at the Fair in Tracy.


Miller-Donnelli Agency, Inc. has announced that Dorothy A. Donnelli was named president and treasurer of the corporation at a corporate meeting held on July 16. Mrs. Donnelli was named to fill the offices vacated by the recent death of her husband, Carl C. Donnelli. Kenneth D. Pearson will continue to serve as vice-president of the corporation.


The Platte County Commission Thursday received five bids on bleachers for the County Parks and Recreation Board.


Curbs have been poured as the first step in construction for a new entrance to the Platte City Caring Center. Sealamatic Paving Co. is the contractor on a $38,196.62 bid, of which part will be paid for by assistance from the Platte City Special Road District. The new Mill Lane will provide a less steep entrance to the nursing home than O’Rourke Drive, where emergency vehicles sometimes have a difficult time on winter days.


Platte County Recorder Ida Cox reports that the fees for getting a marriage license will increase substantially as of August 28. Currently the fee is $20, and will increase to $40.
