Mrs. Bill (Jody) Knighton, a seven-year firefighter with the Central Platte Fire Department, accepted a check for $1,000 from Carl Donnelli, secretary of the Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Co. of Platte County. The money, donated by Farmers Mutual, will be added to donations in a drive to purchase a defibrillator for the fire department. It is estimated the machine will cost $5,500.
Boy Scouts of Troop 248, sponsored by the Platte City Lions Club, were busy last week with a can of red paint and a fire hydrant. They were painting the hydrant for Zed Martin Day as a community and an Eagle Scout project. Scout members included Tyler Bryan, John Irvine, Leo Barrymore and David Dudley.
Crew members of the BETO Construction Co. worked on the new slanting roof being installed on City Hall in Platte City. A cupola and columns around the front overhang are also scheduled to be added. In the process of adding the new roof, a heavy layer of gravel was removed from the old flat roof, which was overloaded.
U.S. Sen. Kit Bond has been notified by the U.S. Marshal’s Service that a proposal to build a Marshal’s Detention Center in Platte City has been denied because of the lack of proper zoning and approval of the Platte City Board of Aldermen. The proposed center was met with strong opposition at a public hearing held at the Vo-Tech School.
