EDITOR:

An attitude of fear can often be contagious and it now seems to have spread to the pages of The Landmark Newspaper (6/3/20). A woman who identified herself as Lorene Osterhaus, Platte County voter, expressed shock that county commissioner Dagmar Wood was “handing out literature outside the polling site, not respecting social distancing measures” and that she “shouldn’t be passing stuff out.” Maybe this lady doesn’t realize that electioneering is quite legal in Platte County and that Wood was merely exercising that right. Would she rather have witnessed Wood yelling at the exiting voters from six feet and then throwing her campaign literature in their direction? Instead of having her “emotions shaken by the incident,” why didn’t she exercise her right and just walk in the other direction? Platte County is either short on news or this was a convenient opportunity to disparage Commissioner Wood.
