Will it be in-person or distance learning?
At a meeting on Thursday, May 14, Superintendent Dr. Jeanette Cowherd updated the Park Hill School Board about the district’s response to the latest guidance from public health and government officials, including these updates:
.Gerner: The Gerner Family Early Education Center will open June 1, with modified operations to take as many precautions as possible, according to public health guidelines. The district will contact families who expressed interest in the summer session.
.Adventure Club:
The district will have more information soon about Adventure Club’s Summer Day Camp program, which has larger groups than the younger children at Gerner and different requirements.
.Summer School:
If public health guidelines allow, Park Hill plans to offer an in-person summer school program for elementary and middle-school students, starting July 1.
If the district is allowed to have in-person summer school, the district will modify operations to take as many precautions as possible. If the district learns it is not allowed to have in-person summer school, it will offer distance learning for summer school. A decision will be made by June 15.
.Free Food: The district will continue to provide free meals to students through the end of June. It will serve at only four locations from May 26 through June 30 – Congress Middle School, Graden Elementary, Tiffany Ridge Elementary and Walden Middle School.
.Staff: Many employees are already working in district buildings, including custodians, maintenance staff, nutrition services workers and some administrative assistants.
Starting June 1, all the 12-month and 10.5-month employees will return to buildings. The district is making sure each employee has a mask and other safety equipment, and is training employees about safety procedures.
.Public Health Guidance:
The district is working closely with public health and government officials, and will adjust if their guidance changes.
Parent Survey:
The district recently sent a survey to parents on Friday to get feedback about how distance learning has gone and about reopening schools in the fall.
