The Platte County Vo-Tech School is lending a helping hand to the Platte City Community Betterment program by building 10 picnic tables and three large bicycle racks to be placed in Platte City parks. The welding class put the picnic table frames together and the building trades class will add the wooden tops and seats for 8 ft. tables. The welding class also made the bicycle stands. Vo-Tech instructor, Glen Seifert, said the students built the racks and tables from some sketches and then improved upon them.

The Platte City Board of Aldermen Tuesday night approved by a vote of 3 to 1, the installation of a new, improved design roof for the city hall building. BETO Construction of Platte City was the low bidder for a basic slanting roof at $22,088 but board members asked the company to prepare plans for some additions to the basic plan, including the addition of a cupola for ventilation, aluminum columns in front, a gabled end and removal of gravel from the present roof to relieve some of the overloading.

Final cost approved by the board is $39,508. Alderman Don Roller voted against the new roof because of the additional expense.

As a part of the 911 emergency calling plan all roads and streets in the county have been marked with signs, but those signs haven’t stayed up long, it was reported at the Platte County Commission meeting Thursday. David Brenner, eastern district commissioner, said the county put up 60 signs and 30 “disappeared.”
