Another Trex Mart convenience store is being planned for this area, this one just off Interstate 29 at the Tracy exit in Platte County.
The ‘truck stop,’ as it is referred to in documents at the City of Tracy, is proposed to go in at I-29 and Exit 20 north of Platte City, on ground located east of the KC Bobcat store and west of the southbound on-ramp to I-29 at that intersection. Small survey stakes can already be seen in the open lots at that location. Trex is currently going through the building permit process with the City of Tracy.
Rita Rhoads, mayor of Tracy, said Trex already has permits to perform dirt work and put the fuel tanks in the ground. Next step is approval of the final plat. Once the final plat is approved, above-ground construction of the project can occur, Rhoads said.
Approval of the final plat might happen in mid-March at the monthly meeting of the Tracy Board of Aldermen.
Preliminary drawings indicate spots for the gas pumps, diesel pumps, and the convenience store.
Tony McKee of McKee Construction Services, LLC, representing the Trex project, spoke briefly about the project at the Tracy Board of Aldermen meeting last Wednesday night.
Speaking on the permitting process was Doug Moore, who handles planning and zoning work and building inspection services for Tracy. He is affiliated with the Institute for Building Technology and Safety out of Ashburn, Va.
The City of Tracy connected with the institute through the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), Rhoads said.
McKee said once all the permits are received from the city, he estimates around seven to nine months of construction time would be needed prior to opening. He said the convenience store is planned to include a country café type restaurant and may also include a fast food restaurant option.
In questioning from the audience, McKee said the current plan of the Trex owners is to also keep the existing Trex store open at 15990 Hwy. 92 open for business after the new one is complete.
Both stores are within the city limits of Tracy, the mayor said.
It was stated the new location will be the 17th Trex Mart store.
Asked this week what the addition of the new store would mean for the city, Rhoads told The Landmark: “It means a lot of sales money, tax money. We need (more revenue).”
