While apparently on narcotics, a Platte City man allegedly drove off in a John Deere Gator utility vehicle owned by the Platte County R-3 School District.
Twenty-four-year-old Jonathan Phillips was captured on camera walking on the north side of Platte County High School at about 2 a.m. on Aug. 9, it is alleged in court documents.
Phillips allegedly traveled across the parking lot and headed toward Siegrist Elementary, where he is seen on surveillance getting into a green motor-propelled vehicle.
Phillips doesn’t make it far before police catch up to him. While responding to a 9-1-1 medical call regarding a male party who crawled into an air conditioning space at the Mid-Continent Public Library in Platte City, Detective James Tharp with the Platte City Police Department found Phillips throwing up.
Police had a strong suspicion Phillips had taken a narcotic and transported him to an area hospital for evaluation. Police identified the curly haired man with desert combat boots featured in video surveillance as Johnathan Philips.
The Platte County Prosecutor’s Office charged Phillips with one count of tampering in the first degree.
