ne spectator in the pit area was injured when struck by a participating vehicle in the Mud Marathon event Saturday night at the Platte County Fair, according to the Platte County Sheriff’s Department.
Major Erik Holland with the sheriff’s department said: “Apparently a vehicle at the end of its mud run ends up trying to avoid other vehicles and ended up hitting a person. She was able to walk to the ambulance to get checked out,” Holland remarked of the incident, which occurred in the pit area, he said.
The father of the injured spectator, who is a 23-year-old female, told The Landmark his daughter suffered a broken scapula (shoulder blade), cuts to her head and bruises. She was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment. He confirmed his daughter was a spectator in the pit area.
Holland remarked that some social media postings on Saturday night, mostly on Facebook, had indicated that there were multiple spectators injured, but that was not the case. In some circles there were even false reports of a fatality being circulated.
