A 2013 budget that has raises for all county employees and outlines plans to employ four additional workers was approved by the Platte County Commission on Tuesday.
Salary increases will be five percent for commissioned sheriff’s department employees, and three percent for all other county workers.
The added positions to be filled this year include a $40,000 paralegal for the prosecutor’s office; a $32,000 events coordinator in the parks department; an $18,900 housekeeping spot; and an $18,900 receptionist position for the administration building.
Kevin Robinson, auditor, said some of those positions were allocated in last year’s budget but were not filled by the previous county commission. Based on comments made Tuesday, a majority of this year’s commission desires to fill the spots listed above.
Duane Soper, new second district commissioner, and Beverlee Roper, new first district commissioner, both said they intend for the budgeted positions to be filled.
The proposed 2013 budget, posted online at co.platte.mo.us/county_offices_departments/auditor.html, sets the county’s total budget at $44.9 million. That is about two million higher than the 2012 approved budget, with $1.5 million going towards the initial payment for the county’s new radios.
It has been five years since county employees have received an increase in pay.
The commission proposes the county will receive $7,901,144 in sales tax revenue and $4,598,856 in local use tax revenue in 2013. That is a total of $12.5 million in tax revenue.
