Earlier this month, Riverside City Clerk Louise Rusick called roll before the city’s board of aldermen for the last time.
Rusick has worked for the city of Riverside for more than 16 years. Thursday will not only be the last day of 2009, but it will also be Rusick’s last day with the city.
“I’m just getting tired of working and it’s time to go while the body is still in one piece,” Rusick told The Landmark last week.
She began with the city in August of 1993 as a sewer billing clerk, before working her way up to city clerk.
The biggest change to Riverside during Rusick’s 16 years with the city is City Hall itslef. She said she remembers working in a tiny room with three large desks. Rusick said there were no windows.
“It was great when we came over here,” she said. “Public safety was right next to us with a hand-through window.”
Mayor Kathy Rose has been with the city all of Rusick’s 16 years. She worked alongside Rusick as the city’s court clerk before being elected mayor. Rose said Rusick will be missed and the city has a tough task to fill her position.
“I’m going to miss Louise greatly,” Rose told The Landmark on Monday. “I know what a valuable position she has had with the city and service she has provided to the city. Whoever we put in that spot will have big shoes to fill.”
Rusick, who grew up in the Northland, said she doesn’t have any big plans for retirement. She said her mother, sister and grandchildren all live nearby and will keep her busy.
Rusick, who now lives in unincorporated Platte County, said she first became acquainted with Riverside in 1962 when she and her family moved to the city and stayed for a couple of years.
Rusick said although she is ready for retirement, there are some things she will miss.
“I’ll definitely miss the people I’ve worked with and have met in Riverside,” she said.
