Houston Lake man charged in shooting

According to the Platte County Sheriff’s Department, a 2001 Silver Honda Accord driven by Gabriella K Rozman, 26, of Atchison, KS, was traveling north on 45 Highway. Rozman’s vehicle crossed the centerline and struck head on with a southbound vehicle. Edward M. Kirk, 41, of Weston, was driving the other vehicle, a 1991 GEO Tracker.

Kirk died at the scene of the accident from injuries inflicted by the crash. Rozman received critical injuries and was transported by helicopter to North Kansas City Hospital for treatment.

There were no other passengers in either vehicle. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. According to witnesses, cell phone use may have contributed to the wreck.

The highway was closed for more than two hours while the sheriff’s deputies investigated the accident.
