Rail line, blasting on Parkville agenda

Next Tuesday evening, Oct. 17, Parkville Board of Aldermen and staff will address several key issues for the Parkville community.A “town hall” style meeting has been scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17 in the board room at city hall. The intent is to discuss updates and identify community preferences regarding Burlington Northern Santa Fe’s (BNSF’s) plans for a second track through Parkville. Information on this issue and alternatives is now on the City’s webpage at www.parkvillemo.com/BNSF/BNSF1.htm. The information includes maps and a summary presented during the three city-sponsored public meetings held on Sept. 28. There is also a link to an online questionnaire at the end of the page. All responses must be submitted no later than Monday, Oct. 16.

Following the public forum, two other major issues will be addressed at the 7 p.m. regular board of aldermen meeting that night. The first is a detailed presentation by the management team at Hunt Martin Materials to address on-going mine blasting concerns. The second item will be a presentation concerning potential plans by the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (KCBPU) for an additional power plant across the river. KCBPU states this is “information only” since they are still researching their needs.
