Closing day is near for the City of Dearborn in its agreement to sell the old Dean Park property to DJMJ LLC, a company that is expected to develop housing on the property.
Dearborn Mayor Josh Linville said he is scheduled to sign closing papers at 4 p.m. Friday.
“People need to realize that right now that land is public property, but after I sign those papers it becomes private property and anybody on there could be cited for trespassing,” the mayor said.
The sale price is $204,000, less $14,000 for needed dam repair on the property.
“We’ll end up with about $190,000 from the sale,” Linville said.
The mayor said most of the money from the transaction will go to the city’s water department.
“About $23,000 of it will go into the parks fund and the rest of it should go toward some of our water debts, such as the water tower payment and the new automation system with Kansas City water,” Linville said this week.
The announcement of the impending closing date on the land deal was made at Monday night’s alderman meeting.
In other business, Alderman Louis Buntin proposed the idea of making the restroom(s) at city hall accessible to the handicapped.
“He’ll get (financial) numbers together and bring them to the next meeting,” Linville said.
