The city clerk at Dearborn has tendered her resignation just six weeks after accepting the position.

Sonia Ray submitted a letter of resignation to the Dearborn Board of Aldermen at their regular meeting Monday night. She listed her departure as being due to “personal reasons.”

City leaders seemed disappointed to see her go.

“I thought she did an excellent job. She picked up on things real quick, nothing was ever a problem. I thought she did a real good job,” said Mayor Josh Linville, who said he was surprised to receive the resignation.

Alderman Gary Bomar offered similar sentiments.

“She was very gracious,” he said while offering praise for her job performance.

Ray told the board she will help train the new hire, giving a mid-November time for her departure. Bomar said Ray indicated she will be “available for help whenever.”

The board is advertising the position this week. Applications can be picked up at city hall on Oct. 13 and Oct. 20 and must be returned by Oct. 21. Linville said city officials will contact top applicants the week after that. The new person will be expected to start work as soon as possible, Bomar said.

Bomar indicated he hopes some of the same folks who applied last time will also put their names in the hat this time.

“We interviewed enough candidates the last time that we’re not in a lurch,” the alderman remarked.
