Suspect in Platte City armed robbery caught

Less than three weeks after he made off with nearly $500 in an armed robbery at Your Dollar Store on Platte Valley Road, Platte City police have their man.

Carl P. Glaviano, 44, was arrested and charged in Lafayette County Circuit Court last week with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. Glaviano, a former resident of Belton, is suspected in armed robberies in Belton, Grain Valley, Higginsville, Independence, and Richmond.

In each robbery, Glaviano was said to mention his family — his wife or kids — and used the fact that he had to support them as justification for his crimes. Glaviano reportedly has no family or kids.

Glaviano was moved from Lafayette County to Kansas City and finally the Western Reception Diagnostic Correctional Center in St. Joseph after his arraignment. Authorities moved him after labeling him an escape risk.

“He clammed up after learning the charges,” said Platte City Sergeant Dennis Trabue. “He doesn’t have anything else to look forward to but doing time.”

Authorities narrowed their focus on Glaviano after a Grain Valley detective recognized the pattern of robberies and their similarities. Acting on his tip, police were able to match descriptions of the suspect’s truck to Glaviano, who was wanted on a parole violation.

After tracing the license plate and victims of his crime were able to positively identify him in separate photo lineups, he was taken into custody on the parole violation. He has since confessed to the crimes.

Glaviano has been convicted of second-degree robbery and a drug felony in the past. Currently being held on a $50,000 bond, he faces up to 45 years in jail.
