Platte County Commissioners have finalized closing documents on property for county parks and recreation.
In Thursday’s regular session, commissioners approved an escrow agreement and closing documents to the William T. Parma property.
According to Parks and Recreation Director Brian Nowotny, First District Commissioner Michael Short handled the negotiations directly for the purchase of the property.
The 114 acres of property is at 52 and Northwood Road in Kansas City.
“There are no neighborhood or regional parks in the immediate area. The county’s Green Hills Wildlife Preserve is approximately 3/4 of a mile south of the property,” Nowotny said.
The land was purchased as part of the county’s implementation of the Parks System Master Plan to acquire land for new regional “signature” parks.
“The vision for the park is to develop facilities that are now lacking in the area, such as walking paths, playgrounds and open space play areas such as ballfields or tennis courts, while preserving the nature and beauty of the rolling wooded park,” Nowotny said. “The county will master plan the park with input from the residents of the area in 2004 and 2005 to ultimately determine how the park will be used.”
Commissioners also gave approval of a real estate sale contract for property owned by Mr. and Mrs. Rick Rawlings. As first reported in The Landmark last week, the six acres of land will be used as park ground at Dearborn.
