On the November ballot, Platte County voters will be asked to approve a county transient guest tax.
Platte County Commissioners approved an order during a meeting Tuesday allowing voters to decide on a county transient guest tax for the purpose of promoting tourism.
According to commissioners the quarter cent sales tax would be charged at hotels and motels in the county and be paid only by visitors to the county.
“This will not affect the general population of the county. It will affect people who stay in our hotels and motels,” Second District Commissioner Steve Wegner said.
Money generated from the tax would benefit the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Currently the Convention and Visitors Bureau is funded by general revenue.
If voters approve the tax in November, it would take effect in April.
