There were approximately five burglaries in northern Platte County last week, authorities with the Platte County Sheriff’s Department said this week.
Shelle Browning, spokesperson for the sheriff’s department, said she had information on two of the burglaries. Reports on the other burglaries were not yet available, she said.
At least three of the five burglaries took place on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
The residence of Doug Barton, Hwy. E, Camden Point, was burglarized that day between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Entry was gained by breaking the glass in a rear door.
The house had been ransacked and items reported missing included a camera, jewelry, a camcorder, three rifles, a shotgun and a scope, along with the keys to an all-terrain vehicle.
Also entered that day was the home of John E. Homan on East Ridgely Road. The home was entered between 5:30 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. while Homan was asleep inside. His wife had left for work around 5:30 a.m. Some drawers had been gone through and a jar of change containing a small amount of money was the only item reported missing, Browning said. The doors to the residence were not locked.
Also burglarized the same day was the home of Bill Hankins on Elm Grove Road in northern Platte County. Hankins, who does some reporting and photography for The Landmark, and his wife were working in a barn on their property when the burglary occurred. The house was ransacked and items missing included a purse/wallet.
Browning said she is still waiting for an official incident report on the Hankins’ burglary, as well as two other similar crimes.
