Hardware store marks opening in Platte City

A new home/hardware store has opened its doors to bring a wide variety of products and services to the surrounding area of Platte City.

The new 28,000-square-foot Running Horse Ranch and Home Ace Hardware, located at 2601 Running Horse Road, welcomed its first customers Saturday.

Customers turned out from across the area to see what the store would be offering. According to Rick Clark, general manager/owner, the store will offer its customers a wide variety of services from small engine service, tire repair and installation, a full-line of Purina feed products for pets, cattle and horses, a large auto selection, lawn and garden products and a clothing department.

“We’re glad to see the store finally open and realized,” said Clark. “I’ve had a lot of calls from residents in surrounding areas like Kearney, Smithville and St. Joseph, regarding our services. I think the opening of our store is going to be a good draw for the community.”

Clark stated that one market the store is focusing on is the sales of the Purina feed line due to the large number of horses in the area and the lack of retailers who may provide such a service for that clientele.

While the Purina feed line currently isn’t in place, Clark said he is expecting the service to be available to customers by the end of next week.

Currently the store is operating under specific hours to serve as training for its employees. Permanent hours are expected to be in place within a week or two. Clark stated a grand opening date is also expected in the near future for the site.
