Building permit report shows county growth

Director of Planning and Zoning, Aaron Schmidt reported to commissioners that based on the number of building permits issued, the unincorporated portion of Platte County continues to grow.

In the month of February, 21 single family building permits were issued, bringing the total number to 30 for the year and the total valuation to over $5.7 million for the year.

In other business, the commission approved a $2,000 funding agreement between Platte County and the Platte County Soil and Water Conservation District.

The agreement, which has been established between the two entities for several years, agrees that the Soil and Conservation District will provide services and supplies to the county to include: materials and awards for the fourth grade poster contest, survey flags, a quarterly newsletter which will include the expense of printing and postage.

Commissioners also approved a $58,152.50 performance and maintenance guarantee for storm sewer improvements to the Lakes of Oakmont 6th Plat. The guarantee will ensure the satisfaction completion of the stormsewer improvements to the subdivision and is to be completed within one year.

A five-year lease purchase agreement was approved for $104,070 for a motor grader for the public works department. The agreement is between Platte County and the Kansas State Bank of Manhattan. The motorgrader purchase is a part of the department’s five-year equipment plan.

Commissioners also heard bid openings for an inmate transport insert for an extended cargo van, and a extended one ton cargo van. The inmate transport insert extended cargo van received two bids: American Aluminum Accessories Inc. of Perry, FL for $7,400 and Mavron, Inc. of Warsaw, Indiana for $9,574.

Two bids were also received for the one ton cargo van: All Pro Ford of Platte City for $19,677.85 and Roberts Auto Plaza of Platte City for $19,673. The bids were forwarded to the Platte County Sheriff’s Department for review.
