Mayor Truman V. Glenn warned all residents of the City of Platte City to consider carefully the ramifications of Amendment 5 before they vote in the statewide election Nov. 4. \u201cSection 22 of this proposal would allow property taxes to increase at the same rate as the consumer price index, which recently has averaged 12.8 percent,\u201d Mayor Glenn warned. \u201cThe amendment would supersede the rollback provision provided by the General Assembly in 1979 which would keep us from paying exorbitant property tax increases. This proposal makes a mockery of the entire reassessment program which was developed to equalize taxes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Plans for an Old Fashioned Christmas have been announced by the Platte City Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Betty Hoskins, chairman of the Christmas promotion committee of the chamber, said the plans include an outdoor Christmas tree trimming, buggy rides, visits by Santa Claus, caroling by choirs and other singing groups, resident and commercial lighting contests, gifts from merchants, letters to Santa and a special night for stores to stay open late for Christmas shoppers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
