Central Platte Fire Department officials say they are prepared to defend plans for a $300,000 burn tower proposed for construction near the intersection of Farmer\u2019s Lane and Hwy. HH east of Platte City. After removing several trees from the 6.32 acre property in March, the fire department received a notice from Platte County Planning and Zoning Department requesting that they cease all grading and other construction activities and obtain the proper permits within 10 days or face a violation notice. Larry Bigus, fire chief, indicated that the unauthorized grading was unintentional and that they have stopped. \u201cAll they did was knock the trees off of it. I guess it wasn\u2019t covered by the needed permits,\u201d Bigus said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Representatives for the Platte County Health Department spoke before Parkville\u2019s board of aldermen Tuesday to request that the council consider adding an amendment to current zoning ordinances that would allow for the installation of an LED sign at the health department\u2019s 1201 East Street location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some changes in administration positions are on the way in the Platte County R-3 School district. In the 2010-11 school year, Tolan Singer, currently principal at Siegrist Elementary, will step in to replace Rising Star and Great Beginnings School principal Dr. Donna Hughes, and Jen McClure, currently an assistant principal in the Park Hill School district, will assume Singer\u2019s role at Siegrist, said Tammy Dipino, R-3 assistant superintendent for academic services.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
