At the Platte City Elementary School last Wednesday, Tessa Belcher was honored as the winner of a t-shirt design contest in Sharon Short’s kindergarten class. The contest was sponsored by the Platte County Juvenile Court Services in conjunction with a program called “Don’t Choose Crime” month in Platte County. A proclamation was signed by Gov. Mel Carnahan to designate March as “Don’t Choose Crime” month in Platte County.
The Tracy Police Department has announced the clearance of two recent crimes in the area: a suspicious fire that occurred at 110 Aller Street on Feb. 26 and a destruction of property occurring at 212 Second Street on the same day. Frank Thurman, chief of police for Tracy, reports both cases have been turned over to the Platte County Juvenile Office. The structure destroyed by fire is owned by the City of Tracy and is part of the 1993 flood buyout. The structure was badly damaged by the fire, totally destroying the second floor. The residence at 212 Second Street was owned by Richard Hunt of Platte City. The front door was damaged and a glass broken from the door at that location.
Gov. Mel Carnahan is pictured with Dr. Carl M. Myers of Platte City. Myers, a Platte City physician, has been appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Missouri Senate to serve on the State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts.
