North Platte R-1’s building committee has made a decision to plan for building a new gymnasium and adding additional classrooms at the high school. The committee has been reviewing materials from a North Kansas City architectural firm. Through reviewing these materials, the committee weighed the cost difference between a new gym against the cost of renovation and adding a multi-purpose room. Superintendent Dr. Francis Moran reports the committee feels the difference in cost is small enough to choose the option of the new gymnasium.
An attempted residential burglary was thwarted by a 13-year-old boy Tuesday morning. The boy, home alone at a residence off of Bethel Road in rural Platte County, heard someone kick the front door. He grabbed a cordless phone, ran out the back door and called authorities. Major Greg Crader said Platte County Sheriff’s Department deputies immediately responded. He said the burglars apparently must have seen the boy and left the scene after gaining entry.
