The Platte County Administrative Court has approved a resolution of intent to install the 911 emergency phone service at an estimated cost of $11,644. John M. Reineke, presiding judge, said they want the service to include all of Platte County including Farley, which is not a free-calling area. Charles E. Kutz, eastern judge, said the program hinges on legislation which must be passed by the Missouri General Assembly, and then it will be necessary for the representatives of United Telephone Company and Southwestern Bell to meet with the court.
The Platte County R-3 Board of Education Thursday night indicated it will continue its fight against a Missouri Department of Education edict axing state funding for school bus routes that up dead-end and cul-de-sac routes. The board learned a state department of education official will be here Nov. 3 to inspect the system’s routes which include dead-ends and cul-de-sacs.
The First Baptist Church of Platte City has launched a campaign, complete with advertising, against Constitutional Amendment No.3–the bingo amendment. The Rev. Milburn Lantz, 49, the new pastor of the church, explains that it involves a lot more than just a social game. “It’s the beginning of gambling. It lets down barriers. Parimutuel betting is our big concern,” he says.
