Details
The I-29 bridge replacement/rehabilitation project in Clay County will include the replacement of the northbound I-29 bridge over NB U.S. 169 and the rehabilitation of the NB I-29 bridge over SB U.S. 169.
This project was originally going to be staged construction with both bridges set to undergo a rehabilitation. On further inspection, it was determined that the northbound I-29 bridge over northbound U.S. 169 was nearing the end of its service life and needed to be replaced. The project now requires a full closure for the replacement and rehabilitation.
Traffic Impacts
The northbound I-29 bridge will be closed for around three months in late winter/early spring and will open to traffic by June 1, 2026, in time for World Cup traffic.
Northbound U.S. 169 will be closed for a weekend while the northbound I-29 bridge is demolished.
Both bridges will be open with no traffic impacts before World Cup events begin in June 2026, MoDOT says on its website.
Detour
Northbound I-29 will be closed, and traffic will be detoured onto northbound US 169 to westbound Hwy. 152.
The U.S. 69 to northbound I-29 ramps will be closed for the detour.
There is potential for various lane closures on southbound U.S. 169 throughout the bridge rehabilitation.
