New officers were elected at a meeting of the Platte City Chamber of Commerce Thursday and the Chamber officially went on record in favor of a proposed half cent sales tax that will be on the Nov. 4 ballot. Mrs. Betty Soper is the new president. Others officers elected are Greg Garrelts, vice-president; Mrs. Betty Hoskins, secretary; Jack Coots, treasurer. Directors named include Bob Verdi, Dean Hutchison, Jerry Jenks, Shirley Kimsey, Steve Shutty, and Kyle Hern.
The annual fall meeting for the Federated Women’s Democratic Club of the Sixth Congressional District will be held Saturday, Sept. 27 at the United Methodist Church in Platte City. The Platte County Women’s Club will host the event.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Ballou of Rushville, Mo., and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Cowan of Fort Scott, Kan., together have announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their children, Pam Ballou and Billy Cowan. The wedding is planned for Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Tabernacle at 5th and Margrave Streets in Fort Scott, Kan. Friends and relatives are invited. Pam attended school at Weston and now is a senior at Fort Scott High School, and is employed at Walmart. Billy is a 1979 graduate of Fort Scott High School and is employed at B&D Motors.
